Welcome / Bienvenu

This blog drags together, into one swirling maelstrom of crackling energy, my various wargames interests. There are links on the top right to my other blogs, each more calmly dedicated to one particular gaming universe.

I post on Fridays. The idea is that when I post a painted figure, it stays up for two weeks; a battle report, a terrain project, or a few lines on whatever happens to be the whim of the moment, is up for a week.

The pages at the top of the blog contain historical information on the periods that interest me. They are primarily an aid to my poor memory, and not meant to be in any way exhaustive, nor necessarily correct.

I hope this blog offers you much enjoyment and some inspiration !

Painting 15mm Austrian Infantry

I've updated this guide to take into account a quicker painting style for 15mm figures, and greater use of Contrast paints....

1)  Personally I don't spray undercoat on 15mm.  Undercoat tunic & trousers in mid-grey, skin in standard flesh, helmet in black including comb, boots in black, rucksack in dark brown, bedroll in dark grey, ammo pouch in black

2)  Brown hair

3) A blob of pink (PA Old Rose for example) on each cheek and on the lips.  Contrast Aggaros Dunes, watered down slightly on the brush.  On detailed figures such as AB, a touch of Flesh on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, chin and across the fingers and back of hand.

4)  Entire musket in red-brown.  Contrast Black Legion all over, watered down slightly on the brush.

5)  Metallic parts (barrel, trigger, three cross-bands, cross, bayonet) in silver

6)  Gun strap in white

7)  Tidy up black on helmet or shako, without worrying about underneath the visor. Chin-straps.

8)  Brass fittings on helmet in PA Gold (plate, helmet rim, two bosses; more elaborate for officers) with Contrast Snakebite (except officers), watered down on the brush.

9)  Yellow sides to comb (paint over until vibrant)

10)  Mid-green oak leaf

11)  Collar in facing colour

12)  Black triangle in collar (with white bowtie if officer)

13) Pick out cross-straps and centre of tunic with Contrast Black Legion, watered-down on the brush.

14) Tunic and cross-straps in white, except canteen cross-strap in grey

15)  Trousers in white (for German units)

16)  Cuffs, base of tunic, epaulette edges and turnbacks in facing colour

17)  Touch-up black boots and ammo pouch, paint bayonet holder

18)  Gold buttons (2-3) down tunic centre, two on each cuff, down side of boot (3-4), and on bayonet-holder tip

19)  Khaki brown canteen with black webbing

20)  Dry-brush rucksack in orange, then wash with Contrast Aggaros Dunes watered-down on the brush

21)  Paint bedroll in mid-grey and highlight

22)  White straps (3+3 or 3+2) on backpack and bedroll

23)  Satin varnish

24)  Base
